71-year-old Valentyna Vasylivna and her husband have been living in the village of Zapsilia in Sumy region for more than half a century. Of course, the couple did not expect that retirement life in their home would be so difficult and challenging. The war broke all their plans for a decent old age. In the summer of 2023, the village was shelled by the Russian military. The explosions also hit the house of an elderly couple. The husband and wife managed to hide in the basement and were not injured by the shell. However, the stress they experienced is taking its toll on their health. But most importantly, they lack the strength and means to repair the damaged house. So far, they have only covered the windows with plastic wrap.
